Pinot Noirs of the World

It was again the weekend during which Chaîne des Rôtisseurs celebrates food and wine at the Post Hotel located in Lake Louise in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. A special weekend that combines outstanding hospitality with food and wine of the highest order in one of the most stunning visual locals in Canada.

As it is tradition, the weekend commences with a L’Ordre Mondial event on Friday night, followed by a Châine des Rôtisseurs Diner Amîcal on Saturday night. The Post has one of the great wine cellars of Canada, and our Echanson Joe Scorgie asked Janine Lötscher, sommelier, to help him organize a semi-blind tasting of young Pinots from around the world. And Ms. Lötscher delivered. We tasted seven Pinots from around the world.

It was a great opportunity to taste the wines and to try to determine just where they came from. Ms. Lötscher then explained the wines and their terroir and the subtleties that made them unique.  It was a great educational experience along with the great enjoyment of tasting these wines. Perhaps the surprise was to experience just how similar they are to another. Thank you Sommelier Lötscher, you showed us and taught us so much this evening.

It is of course then time for the meal, as wine and food must always be present at a Chaîne event.

We then descended into the dining room and after a short reception with champagne and appetizers were presented with a wonderful four course meal prepared by Chef Sauter and his brigade.

Echanson Scorgie then rose and congratulated the kitchen brigade and Chef Sauter for the outstanding food and the service brigade for the excellent and timely service. The food was an excellent reminder that Chef Sauter would be presenting us with a Diner Amîcal the following evening. Thank you Sommelier Lötscher for the wines and Chef Sauter for the imaginative and flavourful cuisine.
